A Great Big Feeling

Personal Project, May 2019

This is a series of four illustrations from my undergraduate studio art thesis. The title comes from short album (and song) by one of my favorite bands, Japanese Breakfast, "Where Is My Great Big Feeling?" I wanted to do a series about the dual identity of being a first generation Chinese person in America. I felt drawn to objects that represented my childhood, my culture, and generally exploring how identity can be attached to objects and imagery without necessarily having a strong emotional attachment. Many objects I feel an affinity for remind me of my Chinese culture and my family while simultaneously only signifying an "otherness" through my American eyes. I still feel like I'm constantly questioning and trying to break down the line between those two identities through my art.

This series went along with my animation, Style Your Life.
